"Born and grewing up in Edinburgh,
Scotland, the German Torsten Schwesig had his first contact to brass
instruments by playing trumpet in the brass choir of his church community.
Later in the school orchestra he changed playing french horn and learned much
more about the philharmonic literature bringing out the beauty of his
instrument. Studying at Stuttgart Musikhochschule in the class of Mahir
Cakar he could soon gather experiances by playing as a substitute with
several professional orchestras as the stuttgart philharmonic with which he
soon gave a concert at the New York Carnegie Hall. Since 1988
Torsten Schwesig is a member of the Philharmonic State Orchestra of Hamburg -
the Orchestra of the Hamburg State Opera, also performing in the
Elbphilharmonie Hamburg currently under the direction of Kent Nagano. From
1998 upto 2014 he also held a membership in the Bayreuth Festival
Orchestra performing several produktions of 'The Ring' under James Levine,
Guiseppe Sinopoli, Adam Fischer, Kiril Petrenko and Christian
Thielemann."
